'His unit thinks he's a coward!' Shouting erupts on Fox News over Walz's military service

A panel on Fox News' "The Five" erupted into chaos on Wednesday when resident Democratic commentator Jessica Tarlov chided the rest of the group for echoing the Trump campaign's attacks on Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's military service, following his selection as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate.

Specifically, Trump's running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance's claim that Walz, who served in the Army National Guard for decades, abandoned his unit by retiring just before he was deployed to Iraq — even though those orders came several months after Walz retired to run for Congress, and even though neither Walz nor Vance ever served in a combat role.

"So obviously, this was going to come up because the Trump campaign manager was the one behind the John Kerry Swift Boat attack, which was obviously very persuasive to people," said Tarlov. "He served for 24 years, honorably, then he stopped to run for Congress on a platform of ending the war, and I don't think that anyone, especially with Donald Trump at the top of a ticket, he dodged the draft four or five times, bone spurs, Captain Bone Spurs."

"Bone spurs are a very serious issue, Jessica," shouted Greg Gutfeld.

"[Trump] said that people who had gotten captured, 'suckers and losers,'" said Tarlov, as the rest of the group erupted and insisted Trump denied ever saying the latter. "He denied he slept with Stormy Daniels but that obviously hasn't worked out for him. I don't think you should ever say anyone who served didn't do a good job in this. If J.D. Vance wants to get into that tit-for-tat, he was in the public affairs department. It's just a fact of all of this. I don't think he should be going there with Tim Walz. I think that everyone who has served—"

"He was in a war zone," snapped Jesse Watters. "He was in Iraq."

"He was a reporter," said Tarlov.

"He was in Iraq, Jessica," said Watters. "He was in the Marines. And this guy left his unit ... Listen, it doesn't matter what I think, Jessica, his unit thinks he's a coward."

"It's not true!" exclaimed Tarlov.
