SAN RAFAEL
Police accuse youths
of Canal area attack
San Rafael police have arrested three youths for an alleged assault in the Canal neighborhood.
The assault, which involved brass knuckles, happened near Playa Del Rey. The victim was hospitalized for injuries. Investigators gained descriptions of the attackers and their vehicle, which was later detected by a license plate reading camera, Sgt. Justin Graham said.
On Tuesday, police saw the vehicle on Belvedere Street and contacted three people inside it. The driver said he had a loaded gun in his car, and police also discovered a pair of brass knuckles and a folding knife. Police detained the occupants and connected them to the assault, which was recorded on a cellphone.
The suspects were arrested on suspicion of several felonies such as assault with a deadly weapon, assault that caused great bodily harm, conspiracy and possessing a loaded firearm and brass knuckles. They were booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall. Police did not release their names because they are minors.
MILL VALLEY
City to seek bids
on 2 road projects
The City Council has approved plans for two road projects costing a total of about $1.35 million.
One project involves guardrail replacements along East Blithedale Avenue. The city’s cost estimate is $1.1 million, including a $140,000 construction contingency, according to a city staff report. Much of the funding comes from the Highway Safety Improvement Program.
The other project involves roadside repairs along Monte Vista Avenue for damage from a landslide in January. The cost estimate is $230,240 plus a 10% construction contingency.
The council approved resolutions on the projects at its meeting on Monday, authorizing the city manager to execute contracts with the lowest qualified bidders.
WEST MARIN
Board backs appeal
against plan for sheds
The Marin County Planning Commission has rejected a proposal to build two sheds for goats and storage in Bolinas.
The proposal for the vacant lot at 20 Oak Road involved structures of 120 square feet each. The project required a coastal development permit.
A county zoning administrator conditionally approved the project in June. Residents at two nearby properties appealed on various grounds, including claims that goats are not permitted there, the sheds are too big and the county did not review the most recent version of the geotechnical report, according to a county staff report.
The Planning Commission held a hearing Monday and voted unanimously in favor of the appellants. It declined to consider an alternative proposal by the property owner because of its late submittal.
