Jade Carey returns to Corvallis from Olympics with major announcement
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Jade Carey was asked her favorite moment of her time at the Paris Olympics.
That could be the easiest question she’s ever heard.
“Well, I think I’ve got to say winning team gold,” said Carey with a big laugh.
The OSU gymnast stayed cool in the moments that mattered at the Olympics, and it paid off to the tune of two medals.
She had a mantra she followed the whole time.
“The team final, only doing vault, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to have about seven seconds to get the job done.’ So that’s the most pressure just on one thing to focus on, but like I said before, reminding myself that my normal just enough,” said Carey.
Jade also took home a bronze in the individual vault final—An event she stumbled on in Tokyo.
“Getting that first vault done and doing it well meant a lot because of the last Olympics. I messed up, and it was on that exact same vault, so I’ve anticipated having that redo for three years now,” said Carey.
But today at Oregon State wasn’t about just reflecting on the past as Jade also announced she will return to Oregon State gymnastics next season, which will be her final season of eligibility.
“This community is more than I ever could’ve asked for, and so I just can’t thank everyone enough for always being there. It definitely doesn’t go unnoticed, and I appreciate it a lot,” said Carey.
The event’s MC did ask Carey one pressing follow-up after she proclaimed her return.
When do you start getting in shape for 2025 now?
“In a little while,” said Carey with a giggle.
