Report claims Man Utd willing to offer £100,000-per-week contract to Ugarte alternative
Manchester United are looking to reinforce their midfield after adding a defender and a forward in Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee in the ongoing transfer window.
They were heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte but have now pulled out of the race due to the enormous price-tag.
PSG demanded a £51m fee for Ugarte and the Red Devils were unwilling to meet that valuation.
Erik ten Hag’s side have now switched their focus to Burnley midfielder Sander Berge.
According to The Sun, Manchester United are ready to offer the 26-year-old a bumper contract worth £100,000-per-week.
It is said the Norwegian is excited about the possibility of joining the Manchester outfit this summer.
But the transfer fee remains a stumbling block in the way of a deal. Burnley are demanding up to £30 million for Berge and United are prepared to fork out only £20m.
Berge could be a smart acquisition for the Premier League giants as they can sign him for a smaller fee than Ugarte.
The 26-year-old mainly plays in central midfield but can also be handed the defensive role.
He made 37 appearances in the Premier League last season, averaging 2.1 tackles, 5.5 ball recoveries, and 1.6 clearances per game.
The Clarets are said to be under no pressure to sell as they can rely on the £100m parachute payment. So it looks United will have to come up with an offer close to their asking price if they want to sign the player this summer.
