8/8/2024: Turning cloudy, showery ahead of Debby
The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:
After a beautiful start to Thursday, we turn cloudy and showery by this afternoon ahead of the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby.
The storm, in its weakened state, is expected to pass over central and northern New York during the day Friday.
More on and off showers tonight, with low temperatures not nearly as cool - only into the 60's with clouds and the wet weather.
Heaviest rain from Debby pushes through for the second half of Friday. A widespread 2-4 inches of rain is expected to fall across the western Catskills, Mohawk Valley, and Adirondacks.
A flood watch is up for Warren, Montgomery, Fulton, Hamilton, and Herkimer counties through Saturday morning.
You can also expect breezy and blustery conditions as the rain falls on Friday. While it's a low end threat, we can't rule out an isolated couple severe storms during the day. Quick hitting, weak tornadoes are sometimes spawned on the "dirty" right-hand side of tropical systems like this one.
By daybreak on Saturday, the bulk of the rain will be out of here. The rest of the day looks better, with partly cloudy skies and comfortable temps - though the ground will be awfully soggy in spots, and rivers, creeks, and streams will still be running high.
Sunday and Monday are still breezy at times, with a few stray showers up towards the north. Still, these days are far from wash-outs. Better, brighter, and a bit warmer for Tuesday and Wednesday.
