Kansas gas users may see $42 rate increase per year

0

TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) is set to have a live hearing on a proposal to raise the monthly gas bill of some local residents.

The KCC will hold a settlement hearing at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at their office in Topeka which will be livestreamed on YouTube. This meeting was previously scheduled as an evidentiary hearing for the Kansas Gas Service rate case.

On Friday, Aug. 2, KCC staff, Kansas Gas Service, the Citizens Utility Ratepayer Board and WoodRiver Energy filed a unanimous settlement agreement with the KCC. Commissioners will have the opportunity to hear from witnesses in the docket and ask questions during their meeting next week and may approve, reject or change the agreement.

If approved, residential customers with average usage, or 72.23 Mcfs, would see an increase in their monthly bill of $3.83 a month or $42.02 per year, according to the KCC. A previous proposal to implement two different rate structures based on high or low usage has been withdrawn.

The meeting on Aug. 13 will be livestreamed here. You can read through the full settlement below:
