The Assam government had launched the Nijut Moina scheme to provide financial support to 10 lakh girl students from Class XI to post-graduation in government institutions. The scheme aimed to prevent child marriages and empower the poor. Monthly assistance ranged from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,500 for ten months in an academic year, delivered through Direct Benefit Transfer.
