New attractions at Oklahoma State Fair include live bison and car giveaway
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The end of summer means it's almost time for the Oklahoma State Fair, and this year there is a lot more to do with new shows, music, and food.
"We have a new tumbleweed crossing wild west type show. There we have the crack and corn comedy show," said Scott Munz, State Fair Spokesperson.
That's just a few of the new things you can see at this year's state fair.
There's also a pirate show and a corn maze; but that's not all.
"Everyone loves bison in Oklahoma. Everyone wears hats or shirts and always talks about it," said Jessi Deardof, the Vice President of Oklahoma Bison Association.
One of the wildest new attractions is the chance to get up close to real bison.
"To be able to have a safe place where people can come and get up close and personal and learn and ask questions. Not only it being the first time, but to be so all inclusive is going to be a great experience," said Deardof.
This is the first year the Oklahoma Bison Association will be at the fair. If you'd like to see the bison or ask the experts questions, they will be there from September 19 until September 22 in Barn Three.
If animals aren't for you, there's a new trick riding show with 16-year-old Sophie Duch.
"I saw a trick riding at a rodeo when I was about three years old, and it was really just kind of a dream that stuck with me. I was infatuated with it," said Sophie Duch, who's a professional trick rider.
Sophie said her show is packed with tricks and she has a favorite that can be seen at the Oklahoma State Fair.
"The roman riding, and that's actually where I stand up on two horses. And I go really fast around the arena and I actually have a ring of fire that my horses jump through," said Duch.
There's also a chance to a win a new car; if you can handle the smell.
Contestants will live in a car starting on Day One of the fair until the last day or until there's only one person remaining.
Fair organizers said the contest is not as easy as it looks. It's called the "Stinkin' Sentra Giveaway."
"We'll be getting them out to do some exercises and some dancing. They obviously want to sweat them up a little bit so that when they put them back in the car and roll the windows up, that's the stinking component," said Munz.
There will be scheduled bathroom breaks for those participants.
To enter the contest, there is a guessing game going on first at Dent Source, then the four participants will be chosen.

Fair officials also explained some of the new food option at this year's fair.
One of those include a new "Oktoberfest" event.
"We've rebranded the karaoke, tend to be an Octoberfest tent. We're going to be serving German food. German beers, the first four days of the fair, Thursday through Sunday," said Munz.
There will also be two live bands and a beer stein holding contest.
If you want a more budget friendly option for the fair, Munz says there will be $4 gate admission and some food will be $4 on Tuesday, September 17.
