Investigation into LPD officer death still on-going, no conclusion reached
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - The investigation into the death of Senior Corporal Segus Jolivette is still ongoing.
Louisiana State Trooper Peggy Bourque tells News 10, "The investigation remains active and ongoing. Investigators are diligently working to examine all evidence and facts of the incident to ensure a thorough and precise investigation." More than 30 witnesses have been interviewed and that Louisiana State Police want to make sure they get the investigation right.
The hours long hostage standoff that happened in Jeanerette started off with the city marshal trying to serve an arrest warrant. However, the standoff turned into a hostage situation resulting in four Lafayette Police Officers being shot, with one being killed during the incident.
While multiple sources have told News 10 different scenarios that have happened that day, there has not been a final conclusion.
The subject of the standoff, Nyjal Hurst , remains in jail on Aggravated Second Degree Battery and Home Invasion charges. He's also been charged in St. Mary Parish for armed robbery, illegal use of weapons, attempted car jacking, domestic abuse battery child endangerment by strangulation, and two counts of aggravated battery.
