13-year-old shot in southeast Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A 13-year-old boy is in critical condition after a shooting in southeast Columbus, according to police.

Dispatchers sent officers to the 4500 block of Monmouth Court after getting a 4:12 p.m. report of shots fired. They told NBC4 the boy is in "extremely critical" condition and was taken to a nearby hospital.

A sergeant at the scene told NBC4 they are treating the area as a crime scene, and confirmed the boy was still alive as of 5:25 p.m. He added that they found the firearm from the shooting, and are interviewing multiple people nearby.

The sergeant said there is no suspect information as of 5:30 p.m.
