A movie night by the sea
Those in Larnaca this week will get to enjoy a seaside film screening tonight as the Larnaka Cinema Society presents its second event by the beach. The Finikoudes Beach, in front of the Medieval Castle, will be transformed into an outdoor cinema to present a film all about one of the greatest legends of Swing music.
Titled Django, the film follows the real-life footsteps of Django Reinhardt, an emerging jazz guitarist and composer. While he enjoys his success as a famous guitarist and composer, the circumstances of World War II put him in a battle for survival. Produced in 2017, the film opened the 67th Berlin International Film Festival and is in French. Tonight, it will be screened in its original language with subtitles in Greek.
The event is free to attend but cinephiles are advised to arrive early at the location (the screening starts at 8.30pm) and pick out a good viewing spot on the beach. No chairs will be provided by the organisers so movie-goers are to bring their beach chairs or towels to sit on the sand and enjoy the film under the summer night sky.
One more film night by the sea will be organised this summer, the last one of the season, and it will take place on August 30 with the Greek film Ekei Pou Zoume. The 2022 comedy is directed by Sotiris Gkoritsas and is sure to spread laughter on Larnaca’s seafront.
