£25m midfielder was offered to Spurs by intermediaries this summer – Club insider reveals
Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe has played down the chances of the North London club making a move for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.
Tottenham want a new striker in first
If reports over recent days are to be believed, Tottenham are now focused on bringing a top-class striker through the door before the start of the new season.
It was reported by The Times on Wednesday that Spurs are confident that they will win the race for Dominic Solanke sooner rather than later, after which they will turn their attention to signing a winger and a left-back.
However, the midfield area might be another one that Tottenham need to address, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg having left the club and with Oliver Skipp being backed to follow the Dane out of the door (The Telegraph).
Spurs were offered Matt O’Riley
One midfielder who was mooted as a target for Spurs earlier in the summer is O’Riley, with Ange Postecoglou alleged to be keen on reuniting with the Dane (GiveMeSport).
It has been revealed that Celtic would be willing to sell their star man for a fee of around £25m this summer (Football Insider).
However, O’Keefe is not convinced that Tottenham would make a move for O’Riley, explaining that it was intermediaries who offered the former MK Dons man to the North London club.

While Ange obviously rates O’Riley, having signed him for Celtic, the Tottenham boss would be quite aware of the difference in quality between the Scottish league and the top end of the Premier League, which is why he has not raided Celtic for any player since arriving at N17.
I don’t expect Oliver Skipp to actually leave this summer either, so Spurs may not even need another midfielder for the time being.
