Five teens arrested in Troy on weapon charges
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Troy Police reported the arrest of five teens following a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon. The youths, composed of two 17-year-olds, two 16-year-olds, and one 15-year-old, were all charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
On August 7, police pulled over a car occupied by five teenage boys near Project Road near Madison Avenue in connection to an investigation into recent violence in the area. During the stop, officers located two loaded illegal handguns in the vehicle, one of which had previously been reported as stolen.
The five teens were arrested and taken to the Youth Services Bureau to be processed. The 15-year-old was additionally charged with criminal possession of stolen property before being issued a youth appearance ticket and released to his guardian.
The other four were arraigned on Wednesday night and were initially going to be held in a secure detention facility, but due to a lack of vacancies, the 16 and 17-year-olds were also released to their guardians. The teens are scheduled to appear for further proceedings on a later date and have been issued court-ordered electronic monitoring.
