Abbeville standoff with allegedly suicidal man ends peacefully
ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- A three-hour standoff came to a peaceful end Thursday afternoon after Vermilion Parish Sheriff's deputies attempted to serve an order of protective custody in Abbeville, authorities said.
VPSO received an order of protective custody request from the Vermilion Parish Coroner's Office, regarding a person who was believed to be suicidal.
The Abbeville Police Department was already on the scene, and attempted to contact the man but were unsuccessful. The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was called. The individual refused to comply with VPSO deputies and barricaded himself in the home, officials said.
After a three-hour standoff, he eventually exited the home peacefully and was taken into custody without incident. He was then transported by Acadian Ambulance to a local medical facility for evaluation under the order of protective custody.
No other details were released.
