Mariners Game #118 Preview: 8/10/24, NYM at SEA
Placing a temporary pause on Go Mets baby, love da Mets for the next two days
The Mariners took the series opener last night but have to repeat their success against yet another southpaw tonight, and this time a much better one in a newly-reinvigorated Sean Manaea, who cut a bunch of his ERA off along with his hair, apparently. Manaea hasn’t given up a run over his last 14 innings pitched while striking out 21.
The Mariners will counter with Logan Gilbert and their lefty-hitting lineup, which means no hot-hitting Luke Raley, again. Sigh. Jorge Polanco returns to the lineup after having a day off to rest up, with last night’s home run hero Ryan Bliss on the bench.

Today’s game information:
Game time: 6:40 PT
TV: ROOT Sports NW, with Aaron Goldsmith and Mike Blowers
Radio: KTHH 770 AM, with Rick Rizzs and Dave Sims
Note the radio station change; the Seahawks pre-season game will be on 710. Also a reminder: tomorrow’s game is a 4:10 start instead of 1:10 as the Mariners will be on Sunday Night Baseball for the first time in two decades.
Milestone watch:
- Andrés Muñoz has not allowed a hit since July 4 vs. Baltimore, over the span of 12.1 innings and 10 consecutive appearances. If Muñoz does not allow a hit in his next appearance, he will set a franchise record for most consecutive games without allowing a hit.
- The Mariners shutout of the Mets last night tied them for most in MLB; if they’re able to somehow end the season leading in shutouts for the second year in a row, it’ll be the first time an AL team has done that in consecutive years since the 1989-1990 Athletics.
Today in Mariners history:
- 1999: The Mariners walk off the White Sox, 4-3. Edgar Martínez walks to lead off the inning, followed by a Jay Buhner single, and Dan Wilson is intentionally walked to load the bases. Tom Lampkin pinch-hits for Russ Davis and delivers a two-run walkoff double to the gap.
- 2013: Ken Griffey Jr. becomes the seventh member of the Mariners Hall of Fame in front of a sellout crowd of 46,027.
- 2022: Carlos Santana hits a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning to help the Mariners beat the Yankees 4-3 and secure a series win for the season. It is the Mariners’ first season-series win over the Yankees since 2002,
