Mayank Rawat Powers East Delhi Riders to Second DPL Triumph with All-Round Effort
Tuesday’s weather-affected match between East Delhi Riders and Purani Dilli saw Mayank Rawat’s all-around performance propel the former team to their second Delhi Premier League victory by five wickets.
After taking a few wickets to finish an all-around performance, Rawat struck for 55 runs off of just 27 balls to help the East Delhi Riders climb from a dangerous 57 for four in their 143 run chase.
Due to a damp outfield, the match was shortened to 18 overs per side. Purani Dilli scored 142 for eight when batting first, and East Delhi Riders reached the goal in 16 overs.
Mayank Gussain (35 off 33 balls, 3x6s) and Yug Gupta (34 not out off 22 balls, 2x4s, 2x4s) came to the rescue for Purani Dilli, scoring 70 runs for theSimarjeet Singh drew first blood in the second over, trapping Arpit Rana (10) in front of the wickets and removed Manjeet (15 off 8) as well as Keshav Dalal (0 off 1).
In the fifth over, Mayank removed Sanat Sangwan (13 off 8) and captain Lalit Yadav (0 off 2).
It was insufficient for Purani Dilli to bounce back from 63 for seven to register 142 for eight.
The East Delhi Riders started well but lost a number of batsmen, including captain Himmat Singh (6), Anuj Rawat (18), Sujal Singh (18), and Pranav Pant (1). As a result, they went from 36/0 to 47/4.
It was at this point when Mayank and Hardik Sharma (25), who partnered for 53 runs for the fifth wicket, saved them from certain death.
Mayank scored an incredible undefeated 55 off 27 balls, smashing four sixes and five fours to help his team cross the finish line.
