Why Colin Cowherd Shredded Bill Belichick’s Coaching Tree

Bill Belichick has a mile long list of NFL accolades, including eight total Super Bowl championships.

One area Belichick's legacy takes a hit is the impact of his coaching tree. Once his former assistants have taken head coaching jobs elsewhere, wins became hard to come by and drama arose in those locker rooms.

FS1's Colin Cowherd emphasized that sentiment after another former New England assistant in Brian Flores took a verbal shaming from Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

"They're all combative," Cowherd assessed on "The Herd" on Tuesday. "They're obnoxious. Flores, Matt Patricia, Joe Judge, Josh McDaniels, Bill O'Brien. ... This thing with Brian Flores, it's beyond obnoxious. It's cruel. It's essentially the opposite of the Sean McVay or the Kyle Shanahan tree."

Cowherd further iterated that this trend takes away from the impact Belichick himself had during the 20-year dynasty with the New England Patriots.

"It's becoming crystal clear, sorry Belichick fanboys and sicko fans, it's becoming crystal clear is that Tom Brady and only Tom Brady elevated Belichick and the entire staff," Cowherd said. "Josh McDaniels couldn't get along with Derek Carr and Jay Cutler. Matt Patricia couldn't get along with Matt Stafford. Who fights with Matt Stafford? Stafford gets along with everybody. This is what it is."

Cowherd also argued that the latest addition of the Flores story may paint Belichick in a negative light should he pursue a return to the sidelines next season.

"'Belichick guys' in the NFL is toxic," Cowherd added. "... I think there's now a term. I think we see obnoxious, non-collaborative, authoritative. No thanks."
