Jarrett Hurd, Jeison Rosario Make Weight For ProBox Main Event Between Former Unified Titlists
Jarrett Hurd and Jeison Rosario were theoretically one fight apart from colliding for the unified junior middleweight crown.
They now meet with their respective careers at stake.
Both boxers are set for their scheduled ten-round bout above the middleweight limit. Hurd was 162.4 pounds, while Rosario weighed right at the 164-pound contract limit.
Their anticipated clash headlines a ProBox TV show from ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, Florida.
Hurd (25-3, 17 knockouts), 33, returned to the win column in his last ring appearance. The former WBA/IBF 154-pound titleholder stopped Tyi Edmonds (14-6, 9 KOs) in the fourth round last Dec. 8 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
The win snapped a two-fight skid for Hurd, both of which came in a much-needed move to middleweight. Tuesday’s weight just shy of his career heaviest 163 pounds in the win over Edmonds.
At his best, Hurd—born and bred in Accokeek, Maryland—ruled the 154-pound division for more than a year. He unified the belts in an April 2018 win over Erislandy Lara. Their memorable clash was honored by the Boxing Writers Association of America as the 2018 Fight of the Year. His reign ended 13-months later in a May 2019 upset defeat to Julian ‘J-Rock’ Williams (29-4-1, 17 KOs).
Rosario (24-4-1, 18 KOs) was the benefactor of that changing of the guard.
The 29-year-old Miami-based Dominican dethroned Williams via fifth-round knockout in Jan. 2020. Rosario traveled to Williams’ hometown to snatch the belts, though his reign was short-lived. He suffered an eighth-round knockout to Jermell Charlo in their Sept. 2020 RING/WBC/WBA/IBF unification bout.
Rosario was then stopped inside of six rounds by Erickson Lubin in June 2021. He has since won four of his last five starts, all at middleweight or heavier.
Both boxers were regularly showcased on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) shows. Another regular on that circuit was Michael Angeletti who faces Geraldo Valdez in a ten-round bantamweight contest.
Angeletti (11-0, 7 KOs), who hails from Spring, Texas, was 117.8 pounds. Santo Domingo’s Valdez (16-1, 11 KOs) weighed 117 pounds as he aims to extend a six-fight win streak.
Below are the weights for the rest of the undercard, which begins at 8:00 p.m. ET.
