Princess Margaret’s morning routine was as decadent as you’d expect
Princess Margaret would have been 94 today – and we’ve been reminded of just how iconic her morning routine was.
In her twenties, the Queen’s sister settled into a luxurious daily routine that matched her love of the finer things in life.
Her day began when she was brought breakfast around 9am, which she enjoyed in bed (of course).
She then spent two hours listening to the radio and reading the daily papers while chain smoking, before leaving the read papers strewn across the bedroom floor.
At 11am, Margaret would then have an hour-long bath, prepared for her by her maid.
After the bath, she would sit at her dresser to have her hair and make-up done and then head for a ‘vodka pick-me-up’ around noon, before a multiple course lunch with her mother.
Margaret’s routine was first documented in ‘Ma’am Darling: 99 Glimpses of Princess Margaret’, which also described how the princess would never wear clothes more than once before having them cleaned.
The Princess was known for her avant-garde way of living and approaching life, seemingly not caring what anyone thought of her.
She raised eyebrows after beginning an affair with 25-year-old Roddy Llewellyn when Margaret was 17 years older than him.
Margaret was still married to photographer Anthony Armstrong-Jones – aka Lord Snowdon (played in The Crown series by Ben Daniels) – at the time, with whom she had two children, David and Sarah.
Queen Elizabeth’s raunchy younger sibling died aged 71 on February 9, 2002.
She passed away just weeks before her mother, and her funeral took place on February 15 – also at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
