Nearly 30 Pakistani pilgrims die in Iran bus accident
Iranian media have reported that a passenger bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims overturned and caught fire in the Yazd province of Iran, resulting in the deaths of 28 people and injuries to 23 others.
According to the IRNA news agency, citing the Yazd emergency services, the incident occurred on Tuesday night, August 20, near the “Dehshir Taft Yazd” police station.
The bus was traveling from the eastern borders of Sistan and Baluchestan towards the Chazabeh border in Khuzestan when the accident occurred.
The report stated that the bus was carrying 53 passengers.
Yazd police officials have attributed the cause of the accident to the driver’s unfamiliarity with the route, a technical malfunction in the braking system, the driver’s lack of familiarity with the path, and the vehicle’s poor condition.
The Yazd emergency services have reported an increase in the death toll from this traffic incident.
Previously, several Pakistani pilgrims have been killed or injured in similar traffic accidents in Iran.
Every year, Pakistani Shia Muslims pass through Iran to participate in the large Arbaeen pilgrimage in Iraq.
The tragic accident involving a bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims in Iran highlights ongoing safety concerns for travelers undertaking religious pilgrimages. With a history of similar incidents, this event underscores the urgent need for improved safety measures and better management of transportation routes to prevent further tragedies.
The recurring nature of such accidents calls for immediate attention from both Iranian and Pakistani authorities to ensure the safe passage of pilgrims.
