‘It really annoys me’ – Jamie O’Hara says Spurs star should be getting more criticism
Leicester City snatched a point on their return to the Premier League with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night, and Jamie O’Hara has pinned the blame on one Spurs man in particular for the manner in which the club dropped two points.
Cristian Romero has to do better
Spurs were unable to make their first-half dominance count in their opening Premier League game. The Lilywhites went in at half-time with full control of the game, but with chances wasted, the scoreline sat at 1-0.
That first-half Pedro Porro goal was not enough to win the game, as Leicester City clawed their way back through a Jamie Vardy header on the hour mark.
Speaking after the game, former Spurs midfielder turned pundit, Jamie O’Hara, suggested Cristian Romero was at fault for that equaliser.
He told Grosvenor Sport: “Cristian Romero for Leicester’s equaliser was awful! Jamie Vardy is one of the most clinical strikers the Premier League has ever seen – he has eight Premier League opening game goals – and Romero walks past him and gives Vardy space in the six-yard box with a free header!
“Come on, Romero is a World Cup winner, he needs to do better.”
Vicario should have criticised Romero
Later in the game, Tottenham debutant Lucas Bergvall held on to the ball a little too long in his own half and was dispossessed, leading to another Leicester chance. After, his goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made no secret of his unhappiness with the youngster.
This is the same kind of reaction O’Hara thinks Romero should have received, adding: “It really annoys me because no one has a go at him. He didn’t get the same treatment that Bergvall got, it was shocking defending and he needs to be made aware. That there really cost Tottenham the game.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I was really disappointed at the defending for that goal. Our back four has to be among the very best in the league, and yet they were so careless in letting Vardy find that space.
He was clearly Romero’s man, but there’s Porro just behind him who could have picked him up, too, so it’s not just one player’s fault.
