New Delhi: Despite making it to the final of the women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Indian wrestling ace Vinesh Phogat couldn’t claim the medal she had worked so hard for. A heartbreaking disqualification followed her failed weigh-in by a mere 100 grams, leaving India’s hopes shattered. While there was a glimmer of hope when she appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the verdict did not go in her favor. Although the Paris Games took a dramatic and bitter turn in her career, back home, Vinesh Phogat is still celebrated as a champion, embodying resilience and strength.

Even though Vinesh Phogat did not win any official medal at the Paris Games, her fabulous performance has greatly improved her market demand as a brand ambassador. According to an Economic Times report, her endorsement fees have surged remarkably vis-à-vis the rates she commanded before the Olympics, reflecting her increased brand value.

Where she previously used to charge somewhere around INR 25 lakh per endorsement deal, Vinesh now charges between INR 75 lakh to 1 crore with a single brand— clearly a barometer of how much her clout has grown despite the Games’ bad turn of events.

While Manu Bhaker clinched two bronze medals at the Paris Games, Neeraj Chopra was India’s lone silver medallist. Despite falling short of replicating his gold medal-winning performance, Chopra’s brand value has skyrocketed, seeing a remarkable 30-40% rise, now estimated at a staggering USD 40 million (around INR 330 crore).

Manu Bhaker’s market appeal has surged as well, with her landing an impressive INR 1.5 crore endorsement deal with ThumbsUp. Before her stellar Olympics performance, she charged approximately INR 25 lakh per deal, but that figure has now soared sixfold, underscoring the powerful impact of her achievements at the Games.
