Michelle Obama graced the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Aug. 20 wearing a modern navy blue outfit from Monse, which she paired with elegant Jimmy Choo pumps to endorseKamala Harris as the next president of the United States.
As Obama made an impassioned speech emphasizing the importance of moving the country forward and not looking back, her futuristic outfit aligned with her message. Her Monse top would not seem out of place in a sci-fi film set several decades from now. The belted shirt featured criss-crossing fabric that wrapped across the chest and neck, establishing a forward-looking, protective feel to the outfit.
Also contributing to the top’s modern flair was a swath of satiny fabric peeking through the layered design. The shirt was paired with cropped, tapered pants in the same dark navy hue, that hit just above the ankle making the shoes a focal point. The pants were elevated with a black satiny trim at the bottom, subtly playing a part in the outfit’s sleek futurity.
Obama complemented her unique Monse ensemble with a pair of Jimmy Choo’s Scarlett pumps in black Nappa leather, which retail from the luxury brand for $1,075. The shoes feature a 50 mm sculpted heel, falling into the kitten heel categorization. The pumps are designed with an enclosed silhouette, pointed toe, and a vamp enhanced with criss-crossing laces designed to resemble a corset. With a minimalistic design, the shoes offered a demure statement of sophistication without taking any attention away from Obama’s Monse ensemble. The shoes are also available in white.
In addition to her many career accomplishments, the former first lady has become well known for her sharp sense of style, which includes wide-ranging footwear. At the U.S. Open last year, she paired a denim dress and cardigan with platform wedge sandals. She also owns a pair of white criss-cross sandals from Pierre Hardy, which she showed off in an Instagram post focused on her knitting hobby. Appearing on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in 2023 to discuss her book “The Light We Carry,” Obama opted for a pair of pointed black boots.
