Butte LaRose boat landing closing Friday due to Henderson Lake drawdown
ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that beginning Friday, Aug. 23, the Butte LaRose boat landing, near the Atchafalaya Welcome Center in St. Martin Parish, will be closed until further notice due to low water levels caused by the drawdown at Henderson Lake.
The drawdown, which began Aug. 5, will conclude on Friday, Nov. 1, at which time the lake will be allowed to refill, DOTD said. The boat ramp will remain closed until the drawdown is complete and the water has returned to a safe level.
During the drawdown, boaters will be able to access the lake from the private ramps along the southern levee, DOTD said.
Authorities said the drawdown was scheduled to manage aquatic vegetation and improve fisheries habitat.
