Due to an unprecedented and unforeseen anomaly in the Junior European and World Championship selection policies, British Judo has entered careful discussions with Luke Davies and his coach, Jo Crowley, to find a positive path for Luke’s long-term aspirations of qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
To optimise the situation, the decision was made to bring forward his change in weight category. He will begin this transition at the upcoming Junior European Championships this September, joining Eryk Neumann in the -81kg category.
The depth being created among our GB Junior fighters is extremely promising and this has been demonstrated by their various performances throughout this year, which bodes well for the future of British Judo.
The modification to Luke’s selection has opened up an opportunity to select the named reserve at -73kg, in this case, Ben Levy (Budokwai – David Mesa Rey / Larry Stevenson) who has won three bronze medals in the Junior European Cups in Kaunas (Lithuania), Birmingham, and Prague (Czechia) in 2024.
