Several rivers in Odisha's Mahanadi river system are heavily polluted with total coliform counts significantly exceeding permissible limits. Kathajodi river in Cuttack and Gangua nullah in Bhubaneswar are among the most polluted. Regular water quality tests are being conducted, and sewerage treatment plants have been set up to address the issue.
