Xbox fans are furious as major exclusive goes to PS5 but company says it’s all ‘business’
THE CONSOLE wars have been going on for decades, beginning with Sega vs Nintendo in the late ‘80s and ‘90s.
Even when Sega decided to stop making consoles with the Dreamcast, gamers found other companies to put their loyalty behind.
Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is the next Xbox exclusive to go multi-platform[/caption]Started 23 years ago when the original Xbox was released, the great war between PlayStation and Xbox fans rages on.
Each section of gamers wants to prove that their console is the best one, as they constantly compare hardware specs and the quality of their exclusive games.
This is why Xbox fans were devastated when the company announced the Xbox-exclusive games would release on other consoles like PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
At the time Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer spoke of four games, later revealed to be Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, Sea of Thieves, and Pentiment, though As Dusk Falls later went cross-platform.
In February, Spencer denied that major exclusives like Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would be available on other platforms, though admitted that this could change in the future.
He said “I don’t think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform.
“We’re focused on these four games and learning from the experience. We don’t have work going on, on other franchises.
“But for anybody to stand up and say something’s never going to happen, I think it feels like creating more certainty in a world of gaming where you really want to respond to what customers want and what our players and creators are looking for.”
Despite these comments players were still disappointed by the news that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would launch on Xbox in December and PS5 in early 2025.
In an Xbox livestream, Spencer further justified the company’s position on its games’ multi-platform releases.
He said: “What I see when I look is: our franchises are getting stronger. Our Xbox console players are as high this year as they’ve ever been.
“I look at it, and I say, okay: our player numbers are going up for the console platform. Our franchises are as strong as they’ve ever been.
“And we run a business. It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft, the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company, ‘cause we get a level of support from the company that’s just amazing.
“But the end result has to be better games that more people can play. If we’re not focused on that, I think we’re focused on the wrong things.
“So for us at Xbox – health of Xbox, health of our platform, and our growing games are the most important things.”
