Red Sox’s Alex Cora ‘Not Buying’ This Claim From Boston Veteran

Alex Cora is calling Rob Refsnyder's bluff.

Refsnyder, who turns 34 years old in late March, recently told The Boston Globe that he's considering retiring from MLB after this season. The revelation was made at a surprising time, as Refsnyder is putting together a career campaign for a Red Sox team that is flirting with a 2024 playoff spot and figures to be in the postseason mix in 2025.

The veteran outfield claimed he's "undecided" about his future at this point, but Cora doesn't see Refsnyder calling it quits once the season concludes.

"I'm not buying it," Cora told The Globe's Julian McWilliams. "I know what he wants to do in the future. I really do, but I think he's very productive. He's a good player. I'm not, I’m not Craig (Breslow), but that's a good deal. To have him back would be great."

Refsnyder returning to the Red Sox next season would require a joint decision made by the 10-year veteran and Breslow. Refsnyder obviously will need to choose between retiring and playing, and Breslow figures to have final say on the 2025 club option in the outfielder's contract.

But if Refsnyder is keen on another go-around in Boston, one has to imagine Breslow and Cora would welcome him back with open arms.
