Football Insider have revealed that Stoke City and Hull City are both fighting it out for the signature of Australian starlet Thomas Waddingham, who was previously mooted as a target for Tottenham.
Tottenham are investing in youth
Tottenham have secured the services of several talented young players recently, with the likes of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Yang Min-hyuk arriving through the door.
It was reported earlier this summer that the Lilywhites had their attention on another talented young teenager, who was catching the eye in the other corner of the world.
Waddingham earned rave reviews after breaking into Brisbane Roar’s starting eleven last season, scoring seven goals in 18 league starts for the club.
Spurs were frontrunners for Waddingham in April
It was reported by Football Insider back in April that Tottenham were one of several clubs eyeing the teenager, with Ange Postecoglou’s men even alleged to be the front-runners for the player.
However, the same outlet has now claimed that Stoke and Hull have moved to the front of the queue to secure Waddingham.
Both Championship sides are keen on bringing him through the door before the window closes, while Spurs are no longer mentioned as a potential destination.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham have a lot of talented young strikers at the club right now in Will Lankshear, Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett, which might be why the club passed up on the opportunity to sign Waddingham.
The last thing you want to do is block another youngster’s route through to the first-team.
