Duck Festival brings fun, food and town revenue
VERMILION PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- If you are a fan of duck hunting, then you know Gueydan is the place to be. Known as the "Duck Capital of America," the small town is hosting its 48th annual Duck Festival this weekend.
The decades-old festival highlights the town's hunting heritage while bringing a welcomed revenue boost to the community weeks before hunting season brings another crowd.
"And they spend money and that's what we need," said Judy LeBlanc, Gueydan Duck Festival pageant director.
She said traffic increases "tremendously" in the small town when hunting season rolls around.
"That traffic increases tremendously. Biscuits fly off the restaurant shelves, [and] ammo flies off the shelf," she said.
The annual festival features events such as a Duck and Goose Calling Contest, Skeet Shooting, Dog Trials, food, music and more.
