What Bruins’ Jim Montgomery Expects From Jeremy Swayman

Boston Bruins leadership remains confident a new contract can be agreed upon with Jeremy Swayman, and Jim Montgomery counted himself as part of that group.

President Cam Neely this week said something will get done, and CEO Charlie Jacobs noted that signing Swayman to an extension is "unfinished business" for the team's offseason.

Head coach Jim Montgomery kicked off the unofficial start of the season with Bruins FanFest this weekend where he addressed Swayman's contract situation.

"Him and I had a great conversation about leading, needing to become a leader as part of the Bruins. I don't have anything to do with the contract situation. That's not part of my job detail. My job is my connection with the players and how we're gonna be good this year. And I have no doubt Jeremy Swayman will be a Bruin at the start of camp. We'll be ready to go."

The optimism remains high as Swayman projects to assume the No. 1 goalie role after Linus Ullmark was traded to the Ottawa Senators this offseason.

Boston is scheduled to report for training camp Sept. 18.
