New Delhi: Following the shift of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 from Bangladesh to United Arab Emirates, the International Cricket Council (ICC) o Monday announced the revised schedule for the mega event which starts from October 3. Although Dubai and Sharjah will host all the matches, Bangladesh Cricket Board will remain as the tournament hosts. The decision to move the tournament from Bangladesh to the UAE was taken by the ICC Board in the recent meeting held on August 20.
Group A includes six-time champions Australia, along with India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, while Group B comprises Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland. Each team will compete in four group matches, scheduled across the two venues. Both venues will have the added excitement of hosting three double-header matchdays each.
Bangladesh will take on Scotland in the opening game of the event in Sharjah with that game followed by Pakistan taking on Asia Cup winners Sri Lanka. The 2023 runners up, South Africa, will play West Indies in their opening match of the T20 World Cup on October 4 in Dubai.
Defending champions and the most successful team in T20 World Cup history, Australia, will start their campaign on October 5 in Sharjah against Sri Lanka, while the highly anticipated fixture between India and Pakistan will take place in Dubai on October 6.
The top two teams from each Group will play the second placed team from the opposite Group. Semifinal 1 will be held in Dubai on October 17 and semifinal 2 in Sharjah on October 18. If India advance to the semifinals, they will play in semifinal 1. The final will be played on October 20.
