Two charged with murder in connection to Topeka man's death
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Shawnee County District Attorney has officially charged two men in connection to a recent homicide case.
Katie Garceran with the Shawnee County DA's office said in a press release on Monday, Aug. 26 that Rammelo H. Boatwright, 24, and Lorenzo A. Pattmon III, 21, are being charged in connection to the death of 37-year-old Kyle Higgins. Their charges include:
- Pattmon's charges
- Murder in the first degree; inherently dangerous felony.
- Aggravated robbery; bodily harm.
- Kidnapping; flight or the commission of any crime.
- Robbery
- Fleeing or attempting to elude police officer.
- Aggravated endangering a child.
- Criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
- Interference of a law enforcement; official duty.
- Boatwright's charges
- Murder in the first degree; premeditation.
- Murder in the first degree; inherently dangerous felony.
- Aggravated robbery; bodily harm.
- Kidnapping; flight or the commission of any crime.
- Robbery
- Criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
- Aggravated endangering of a child.
- Interference with law enforcement; official duty.
- Interference with law enforcement; evidence.
Police were called around 4:15 a.m. on Aug. 20 in regards to a reported aggravated robbery near the intersection of Southwest 29th Street and MacVicar Avenue. A vehicle was stolen while a child was allegedly still inside. Police were able to find the child and the vehicle which they tried to pull over.
The vehicle did not stop and later crashed at Southeast 29th Street and Minnesota Avenue. Police then arrested Boatwright and Pattmon.
Garceran said other officers around 8:30 a.m. on the same day found a man, later identified as Higgins, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a local hospital and declared dead.
