2024-25 Schedule by Month: March
The Pens will be headed towards the finish line with this schedule come next March
If you’re just joining us, catch up on the prior months starting here on our summer on our monthly preview of the 2024-25 season for the Penguins. We’re almost to the end, reaching the month of March.
Number of games: 14
Home-Road: 8-6
Conference Breakdown: 9 games vs. East; 5 game vs. West
Games Against Metro Division: 3
Back-to-Backs: 1
Highlights: March will be packed with games, but they’re well-spaced for the Pens, with only one of the dreaded three-games-in-four day stretches. There are two decent-sized but not daunting set of three-game road trips and much of the action comes from the friendly confines of PPG Paints Arena, including all three of the month’s divisional contests that come in a row from Mar 15-21. There’s also the quirk of only two games on Saturday, none in primetime, typically the staple of the NHL season. Pittsburgh does have four Sunday games on the docket in March.
This season’s trade deadline will hit on Thursday March 6th. Hopefully the Penguins will remember the fateful Dad’s trip of 2023 where Brock McGinn and Mark Friedman were waived (and McGinn traded days later) by NOT scheduling family to go on the road to Colorado-Vegas-Minnesota (shame, that would have been a good one). Pittsburgh has 19 total games following the deadline, including 11 in the month of March.
But road trippers can delight. In addition to the Western swing, there’s a chance to take a spring break and see the Penguins in both of the Florida locales this month, as well as the close swing up to Buffalo.
Almost half of the games this month (six out of 14) will be against Atlantic division foes. The Pens get a Western flavor with five straight out-of-conference games from March 4-13. February looks like the climax of divisional games for this season, by March 1st Pittsburgh will only have five games against the Metropolitan division left. They’ll knock out three in March to leave only two more later for Games 80 and 82 at the end.
