On the 50th Anniversary of Evel Knievel's Snake Canyon Jump, OKC's Evel Midget is invited too.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – On most days, you can find Mike Cook keeping track of parts and labor at his dad's custom car shop.

Cook is the office manager and promoter of a quiet business that's made a lot of noise in the hot rod world over the years, and still is.

But before you take the measure of a man, you need to see more than just stature or stamina, to go beyond spit and polish, wet sand or dry.

"I don't really care," he insists now about his height, about four feet, or his dwarfism.

"It took a long time but I'm comfortable in my own skin."

Cook is a fourth generation gear head who grew up with Moto and Super-Cross racing as well as street rods.

For him, going fast and doing dangerous things was just a matter of figuring out how.

He recalls a friend asking, "Do you think you can ride a motorcycle through fire? I got a Honda 50. Let's try it out."

For a time, riding his Honda through walls of fire was his calling card—his self-titled showbiz name, the 'Evel Midget.'

Mike's been on dozens of television shows and traveled the country doing stunts with the express permission of the Knievel family to use the family name.

"It's a pretty big honor to be asked by the family," he says

It's been 50 years since the original Evel made his attempt at jumping 1,600 feet across the Snake River Canyon, a stunt that captured the imagination of millions.

As the date approached, Knievel's surviving family and admirers started putting together a celebration of that spectacle.

Planners thought enough to invite the 'Evel Midget' to take part too.

He wasn't even born when Knievel was rescued from the bottom of the canyon, but he is part of a uniquely American legacy, coming from nowhere to tantalize crowds by doing something amazing.

The 'Evel Midget', in his own small way, is still at it.

Mike has recently started doing a few stunts again for smaller shows.

He made a recent appearance on America's Got Talent and even had a small speaking roll in the film, "Killers of the Flower Moon".

Cook will there September 1 to take part in a parade and ceremony at the old jump site in Idaho.

Mike has established a GoFundMe campaign to help him with travel costs on his trip to Idaho and back.
