Shots fired between cars near retail center: Deputies
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Clark County Sheriff's Office is investigating an exchange of gunfire that occurred involving multiple vehicles in Hazel Dell Sunday evening, authorities said.
At 6:15 p.m., the sheriff's office responded to reports from multiple callers about a shooting in a retail center near the 7900 block of Northeast 6th Avenue.
Callers reported between 10 and 12 shots were fired between two cars that both fled the scene, officials said.
"Witnesses initially stated a white Chrysler sedan had shot several times at an occupied dark-colored Volkswagen SUV and then fled the area," the Clark County Sheriff's Office said in a release. "Deputies arrived in the area and could not locate any suspects or victims."
A short time later, another person called 911 and said their Range Rover had been struck by a bullet while it was occupied by people. Deputies responded and observed signs of a bullet hitting the driver's side door. The victim said they were leaving a parking lot near the initial reported gunfire when their car was hit. No one in the car was injured.
"During the investigation, deputies discovered the Volkswagen SUV appeared to have shot at the Chrysler sedan as well," the sheriff's office said. "Deputies located several spent shell casings in the parking lot."
Though local hospitals were notified by law enforcement to look out for anyone with apparent gunshot wounds, no injuries in connection to the shooting have been reported to the sheriff's office yet.
The case is still under investigation.
