Science and sweet treats at the Topeka and Shawnee County Library
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library invited children to learn with a sweet treat!
The library's after-school activity program taught children about DNA. They visualized it hands-on through delicious treats such as liquorice and marshmallows.
"One of the youth librarians, Marlena, is teaching the basics of the four different chemicals that make up our DNA," Diana Friend, with the Topeka and Shawnee Country Library, said. "And she's doing it on a level where they are making ladders with marshmallows on it. So, it's edible DNA today."
When the activity was complete, the final product they had made was a double helix strand of sweet DNA that they were able to enjoy.
