I mean he isn’t the first to get this sort of ban but I bet this ban impacts him (and possibly his club) a lot harder than the bans that the likes of Tonali and Toney got.
Thing is, are you ever going to stop players gambling nowadays? With the amount of outlets available I don’t think you will. The severity of the punishments don’t seem to be acting as any kind of deterrent either.
In fact it seems to me that the more the authorities try and clamp down on it the more players are going to extreme lengths to do it. It seems to me, for the sake of individual players and for the sport’s sake, that it would be better to actually allow it, regulate it and make it as transparent as possible
I’d argue that unless players are betting on themselves to lose or on certain other things happening in matches/competitions they are involved in they should be able to do whatever they want.
