Man Utd legend demands club SACK Erik ten Hag just two games into new season as he picks ideal replacement
MANCHESTER UNITED legend Dwight Yorke has called for the club to sack Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils boss has come under fire just two matches into the new season.
Erik ten Hag should be sacked by Manchester United, according to Dwight Yorke[/caption] Yorke has called for his former club to bring in an ‘elite manager’[/caption]Despite winning their first match against Fulham, United suffered a late defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
Ten Hag, who had his contract extended in July, should now be replaced according to Yorke.
The former striker has even picked his ideal replacement for the Dutchman.
Speaking to Lord Ping, Yorke explained: “Erik ten Hag is a good manager but there is a difference between being a good manager and being an elite manager. United need a manager that comes with pedigree.
“Until United get that manager in, they will struggle, there is an ideal candidate out there that can take the club forward with huge lift and match that expectation. That manager is Zinedine Zidane.
“Ten Hag hasn’t got it in his locker to attract big names, Zidane is an elite manager that can attract the biggest players in the world and get everyone back onside.
“The biggest names in world football will bend over backwards to come and play for Zidane if he’s at Manchester United. At the moment United don’t have the pulling power to get in the players that will play attractive football and win major trophies again.
“United are coming off the worst season in the history of the club in terms of the Premier League era, they got knocked out of a relatively easy Champions League group and Ten Hag got a lifeline by winning the FA Cup.

“The word elite is a rare thing, Carlo Ancelotti is one of them, United need an elite manager on side to take the club forward and get that momentum back and until United do that, it’s going to be a dogfight.”
Zidane has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid for a second time in 2021.
Nine managers Man Utd considered before keeping Erik ten Hag
ERIK TEN HAG appears to be safe as Man Utd manager, but the Dutchman edged dangerously close to the sack.
Here are nine managers Red Devils chiefs are reported to have considered for the job and what allegedly happened with each.
Gareth Southgate
Enjoys plenty of support among Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos chiefs but made clear he wouldn’t talk to any clubs until after Euro 2024. There is yet to be any suggestion that contact was made with the England boss.
Kieran McKenna
Talks were opened with McKenna’s representatives before the FA Cup final, but the former Man Utd coach opted to sign a new deal with Ipswich after Ten Hag’s Wembley win.
Roberto De Zerbi
Allegedly sounded out before the FA Cup final with salary expectations discussed. But Ineos chiefs concluded ex-Brighton boss was not the right fit for the project.
Thomas Frank
Brentford boss met Man Utd representatives the day before the FA Cup final. The Dane also dined with Ratcliffe, Roy Hodgson and Frank Lampard at the launch of a new Ineos car in February.
Marco Silva
Fulham boss reportedly met Man Utd representatives face-to-face two days before the FA Cup final, around the same time as Ten Hag was conducting his press conference.
Mauricio Pochettino
Fell out of Man Utd’s thinking in the first week of June, despite being a favourite of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Thomas Tuchel
Made a very strong impression and came across well during a Monaco meeting. Personal terms were discussed before the ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss decided to step back from the process.
Ruben Amorim
Sporting boss was discussed by the Man Utd hierarchy but did not make the final reckoning.
Roberto Martinez
Portugal manager was considered in the early stages.
During two spells in charge of the Spanish giants, he won two league titles and the Champions League three times.
Ten Hag added the second trophy of his United tenure in May as they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
He later extended his stay by a year through to 2026 but is back under pressure following the Brighton defeat.
His side are back in action on Sunday as they host Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Yorke spent four years at United as a player, scoring 66 goals in 152 appearances.
He also won six trophies with the club, including the treble in 1999.
