Apple reveals surprise date for iPhone launch event with cryptic post – six new gadgets rumoured to be unveiled
APPLE has announced when it will unveil the long-awaited iPhone 16, alongside two other products.
In a classically cryptic social media post, Apple revealed it will hold an event titled “It’s Glowtime”, at its California headquarters on 9 September.
Alongside the iPhone 16, Apple is expected to unveil a new Apple Watch and AirPods[/caption] Rumours suggest a new button and larger overall screen sizes might be on the way[/caption]It will begin at 10am local Pacific time, or 6pm in the UK.
This year’s event falls on Monday, a day that Apple has never chosen to host its event on before.
Nearly all estimates suggested the iPhone 16 would be launched the following day, on 10 September – including The Sun’s own prediction.
It’s thought the tech giant wanted to avoid a clash with Donald Trump and Kamala Harris’ first TV debate.
Onlookers believe the glow and the swirling colours in the invitation are a nod to Apple Intelligence, the company’s new AI features.
Alongside the iPhone 16, Apple is expected to unveil a new Apple Watch and AirPods.
The new iPhone model will come in four size options, the Pro and non-Pro, and a larger version of each.
There have been whispers of five colours, which are said to be white, black, blue, green and pink.
Bloomberg reported that the titanium blue shade may be dropped and replaced with a new rose gold option.
And there’s been talk of a bigger battery to appease those who worry about their iPhone’s juice too.
It’s not clear whether the boost will come to all models or just the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max versions.
Rumours suggest a new button and larger overall screen sizes might be on the way too.
It’s claimed that there might be a new camera control button on the right edge of the iPhone.
Apple Watch 10 Rumours
The Apple Watch 10 is forecast to come with some significant upgrades.
It’s alleged to be thinner than its predecessors, and boast larger screen sizes, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Apple has reportedly been mulling a magnetic attachment for the wrist bands, too.
This would remove the band cutouts and provide more space for other internal components – which in turn could help slim the gadget.
There’s also hope for an updated OLED display that would bring a nice boost to the battery life.
In terms of new health features, blood pressure monitoring could be included, as well as sleep apnea detection.
Although there is some question in whether the device will be unveiled alongside the iPhone 16, or hit shelves later in the year.

And because there were no major changes to the AirPods lineup in 2023, Apple is expected to be introducing its fourth iteration of the earphones.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will discontinue AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 this year to replace them with two AirPods 4 variants.
The higher-end AirPods 4 are expected to offer noise cancellation, while the lower-end model will not.
Apple has typically released new AirPods around the same time as new iPhones in September.
Like the Apple Watch 10, a Bloomberg report suggests the new models will be released later in 2024.
