It is election season, and as usual, most of us wish that it would all just go away. And yet, we know instinctively that anarchy is untenable, that there will always be a ruler, and that the organization of the state is primarily to see that the chosen ruler is more than simply the biggest, meanest thug. That is not to suggest that there is a political cure for our current cultural milieu.
