Nearly 2 million passports issued in Afghanistan in past year
The Ministry of Interior in Kabul has announced the distribution of nearly 2 million passports in the past year.
The Ministry reported on Tuesday that, over the past year, it distributed 1,745,000 passports.
The Passport Directorate spokesperson previously mentioned that the capacity for passport issuance would be increased to 15,000 per day; however, this number has now reached 20,000 per day.
The International Organization for Migration, in its latest report on Afghanistan’s borders, stated that over half a million Afghan migrants crossed the country’s borders during the first three months of this year (April, May, and June).
The report indicates that from April to June 2024, 532,854 people left Afghanistan, marking a 19% increase compared to the same period last year.
The significant increase in passport issuance and the high migration rate reflect the ongoing challenges Afghan citizens face.
The rise in passport distribution points to a growing demand for international movement, while the large number of people leaving the country highlights the urgent need for effective migration management and humanitarian support.
As Afghanistan continues to navigate these issues, addressing the root causes of migration and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens remain critical priorities.
