Our quarter-final against St. Pats took place on a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon at LaTrobe Wodonga. The playing surface was poor, making even the simplest tasks difficult, but both teams had to cope with the same conditions.
Despite the challenges, we did our best to play decent football, creating plenty of chances, but neither team could find the opening goal. St. Pats came close after being awarded a penalty, but their player fired the ball onto the crossbar, keeping the game level at nil-nil.
Extra time came and went without any goals, leading us to a penalty shootout. It was a tense affair, with both teams’ first five penalty takers all finding the net, pushing the shootout into sudden death. Each successful St. Pats penalty increased the pressure on our players.
The drama continued until only two players from each team were left to take their shots. The St. Pats player nervously walked up and fired his shot wide of the top corner, giving us a chance to win the shootout.
Loz, thinking it was his turn, confidently started his march from the center circle to the penalty spot, only to be called back as our goalkeeper, Lee, decided he wanted to take it. The crowd held its breath in anticipation—either this would be a glorious Spurs victory or the saga would continue.
The referee blew the whistle, and Lee trotted up, striking the ball cleanly into the net. The team and crowd erupted in cheers and applause, celebrating our quarter-final win!
This marks the first time the team has advanced to the semi-finals. We’ll be up against league champions Melrose next, but we’ll give it our all, going into the game with the confidence that our best, with a bit of luck, might just be enough to reach the Grand Final.
