‘P.S. Cyprus’: island’s history to come to life at Faneromeni24 festival
As part of Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation’s (BoCCF’s) Faneromeni ’24 Art Festival, on September 5, 2024, the Intra Portas theatre ensemble, drawing on the writings and testimonies of foreign travellers, will perform the devised theatre performance titled ‘P.S. CYPRUS’.
Highlighting the narrative of the island’s history, three actors and a musician, within the logic of a contemporary folk boule, will evoke memories of the past.
We have learned to live with the idealisation of yesterday. But how do the “others”, the “foreigners” see our own place? Through the letters and testimonies of foreign visitors, a dramaturgy is created that maps the image of Cyprus from the 16th to the 20th century.
Four centuries of Cyprus during which the notes and flavours of Europe come to replace those of the East. A mosaic of cultures that has shaped a new identity.
