Man convicted in Washington County child predator sting

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was convicted of multiple charges in connection to a Washington County Sheriff's Office child predator sting over the internet, authorities said.

Brandon D. Perkins, 41, was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty last week to first-degree online sexual corruption of a child and luring a minor.

This comes after the sheriff's office conducted "an undercover child predator sting operation" on October 17, 2019.

"Deputies posed as 15-year-olds and used various social media platforms to connect with potential predators," the Washington County District Attorney's Office said in a release.

The then-38-year-old Perkins made contact with one of the deputies, said he wanted to spend time with who he believed to be a child and "suggested they smoke marijuana together."

"When the deputy told Mr. Perkins she was 15, he asked who was home with her and told the deputy he wanted to spend time with her alone," the DA's office said. "He said he would bring condoms to the meeting and made sexually explicit comments regarding the acts he wanted to perform on the minor."

Perkins was immediately arrested after arriving at the agreed-upon location with two cell phones, a box of condoms, and $3,000 cash on his person.

Though the case was originally indicted in 2019, it was delayed due to "COVID and the defendant's multiple failures to appear in court," the DA's office said.

After his prison sentence, Perkins will serve three years of post-prison supervision and have to register as a sex offender.
