ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- According to the UAlbany University Police Department (UPD), four men in their late teens and early 20s were taken into custody after an incident early Tuesday morning. It began with a UPD officer attempting to stop a car on Center Drive East on the Uptown Campus, according to UPD.
UPD says that when the officer tried to stop the car on foot just before 1 a.m. the car fled, struck the officer, and the officer fired their weapon. This led to the car being pursued by police officers into Albany.
The pursuit ended near Albany Medical Center where the occupants of the car allegedly fled on foot before being taken into custody. UPD reports that no one was struck by gunfire or seriously injured in the incident.
Four men were occupying the car, according to law enforcement, and none of them were university students. They were all among a small group of people that was allegedly banned from campus earlier in the night.
Police are still investigating the incident with State Police. No charges or names of the men have been released.
