Logan Sargeant thanks Williams after his exit from the 2024 F1 grid
In a message on his official app, driver Logan Sargeant said goodbye to Williams after being replaced ahead of the Italian Grand Prix
Logan Sargeant’s time in Formula 1 appears to be over.
While Williams announced earlier this season that Carlos Sainz Jr. would be taking his seat for the 2025 season, the team went a step further on Tuesday, announcing that Franco Colapinto would be sliding into Sargeant’s seat ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.
While Sargeant’s status with the team for 2025 appeared in doubt from the beginning of the 2024 season, his struggles this year — including a hard shunt in FP3 ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix last weekend — seemed to tip the scales away from him in the mind of Williams Team Principal James Vowles.
In a statement shared on the driver’s official app, Sargeant thanked his fans, as well as Williams for the “opportunity” to break into F1.
“After today’s news, I wanted to say that I am super thankful to Williams Racing for giving me my first opportunity in Formula 1,” began the statement. “I am so grateful for the support I received from everyone at the team from the moment I first joined the [Williams] Academy back in 2021.”
Sargeant then recalled two F1 highlights: His first taste of F1, and breaking into the points at last season’s United States Grand Prix.
“Going on to drive an F1 car for the first time in Abu Dhabi was the experience of a lifetime, while becoming the first American points scorer for 30 years in Austin last season was a really special moment.”
As for what lies next, Sargeant noted that he will be taking “time” to evaluate his options, before an announcement.
“I am proud to have represented such a historic team over the last two seasons,” continued Sargeant. “For now, I will be taking time to assess my options, before making an announcement on my future in due course.”
As for what those options might be, our money is on a move to IndyCar, perhaps with Prema Racing, as that team joins the series for the 2025 campaign. Before driving for Williams, Sargeant drove for Prema Racing back in his F3 days.
