Pundit makes claim about Solanke ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Newcastle
Mark Schwarzer expects Dominic Solanke to come back into Tottenham’s starting eleven for the clash against Newcastle United if he is passed fit for the game, but not everyone agrees with the pundit.
Dominic Solanke missed Tottenham vs Everton
Solanke unfortunately had to sit out the game against Everton due to an ankle injury and watch on from the sidelines as Tottenham created chance after chance and put the Toffees to the sword.
The centre-forward would have undoubtedly loved to have been on the end of some of the crosses that Spurs played into the box on Saturday as he still awaits his first goal for the Lilywhites.
Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that the 26-year-old’s injury is not serious and that he has a chance of being fit for the trip to St James’ Park on Sunday (Football.London).
However, with Tottenham putting four past Everton, it remains to be seen as to whether Postecoglou would want to make any changes to his side even if the club’s record signing is fit.
Should Tottenham name an unchanged XI?
Jay Bothroyd has argued that Postecoglou should pick the same starting XI that beat Everton 4-0, with a front five of Son, Odobert, Johnson, Kulusevski, and Maddison – even if Solanke is passed fit.
Mark Schwarzer, however, expects Solanke to play against the Magpies if he is fit and ready, insisting that Postecoglou will want the newcomer to form an understanding with Son Heung-min.
The pundit told The Optus Sport Football Podcast: “I’m not so sure; I think if Dominic Solanke’s fit to play next week, I think he would play him. I think he’ll want him in the team as quickly as possible to play alongside Son who’s in unbelievable form.
“You want him to play off the two, to build an understanding, you want them to create that relationship and hopefully help Dominic Solanke score goals, and who better than someone like Son who’s a provider and a goalscorer himself.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Ange will not want to risk Solanke if the striker is not 100 per cent fit for Sunday.
If Solanke is passed fully fit, Johnson will likely be the one to miss out against Newcastle, with Odobert unlikely to be dropped on the back of his impressive debut showing.
