0

TOPEKA (KSNT) —The Topeka Police Department's (TPD) response team got a little wet during a water survival course Wednesday.

The training was held at GreatLIFE in downtown Topeka. Fly Fish Swim & Scuba teamed up with TPD to provide the pool and ensure safety throughout the training.

27 News spoke with the co-founder of Flying Fish and Scuba about their involvement.

"It's important for us as a member of the community to give back," Lemon said. "Anytime we have the opportunity to work with public or private entities to give back and provide a little bit of extra safety or service. That's just an important part of our mission."

Lemons also said Flying Fish Swim & Scuba's mission statement is health, education and adventure through water.

Working for you, 27 News also asked a city spokeswoman, Rosie Nichols, why TPD had this training.

"The Topeka Police Department’s Response Team conducts regular training for various scenarios they may encounter," Nichols said. "Response Team members carry up to 70 pounds of gear, depending on the situation they are responding to. Water survival training builds the confidence of officers in bodies of water, should they ever find themselves in a situation where they need to swim with their heavy gear on."
