Police release photos of gunman sought in White Palace Grill shooting
Chicago police are looking for a man wanted in connection with a shooting inside the White Palace Grill restaurant in the South Loop on Friday.
Video surveillance shows the gunman wearing a vest emblazoned with the word "officer" and carrying a badge. He is then seen pulling out a gun and shooting a 42-year-old man who was leaving the restaurant in the 1100 block of South Canal Street around 2:58 a.m., Chicago police said.
The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
The gunman fled in a silver Ford Focus, police said.
The restaurant was crowded with diners in town for the Democratic National Convention.
Colorado state Rep. Javier Mabrey was enjoying breakfast at the diner when he heard a “very, very loud noise.”
“We were just sitting there eating pancakes, and all of a sudden we heard a very, very loud noise and very close gunfire that was definitely coming from inside the restaurant,” Mabrey, 34, told the Sun-Times.
Mabrey, an advocate for gun violence prevention, at first thought it was a mass attack.
